Volvo EX30
Hello there!
I recently had an extraordinary experience that got me excited and buzzing with creativity. I was contacted by the HEAD of PR at Volvo - now, how cool is that?
For the past couple of years, I've been passionately creating miniature car scenes. Right from the outset, my goal was clear: I wanted to produce images for a real car brand, and this opportunity felt like a dream come true.
The stars seemed to align perfectly when Volvo introduced their latest offering, the EX30, their smallest SUV ever. They had a unique idea: to showcase this incredible vehicle in miniature form. The challenge presented to me was to incorporate their core values into this scene: Design, innovation, and sustainability. I was up for it, of course.
What happened next was a pleasant surprise. I realized that I hadn't thrown away the packaging of my latest juice machine, which came in a box with cool-shaped cardboard covers designed to protect the machine inside. This cardboard, I thought, could be my key to creating a distinctive environment for this project.
I ingeniously repurposed that cardboard, making it the primary setting for my miniature Volvo scene. The car, in 1:43 scale, looked magnificent atop one of the platforms. What made it even more fascinating was the ability to use two pieces of the cardboard, one as the bottom and the other as the roof. This allowed for an interesting and realistic reflection in the environment.
To add a touch of creativity and intrigue to the scene, I decided to cut out a square in the roof section. This created a large and unique light source, which I covered with scrim paper to soften the light and give it that perfect touch.
With my trusty Canon R5 and a Probe lens, I moved in close to the car, giving the audience a unique perspective of this beautiful vehicle. The results were astonishing; the images captured had a commercial appeal and showcased the car's design, innovation, and sustainability - just as Volvo had envisioned.
This project turned out to be a wonderful fusion of creativity, resourcefulness, and storytelling. It's proof that sometimes, the most extraordinary results can come from the simplest setups.
